Director of Soccer Development

Overview

The Director of Soccer Development (DSD) will provide leadership and direction on all aspects of JPYS’s programs’ technical development. This includes player development as well as developing volunteer and paid coaches’ coaching capacity. The DSD will adhere to and promote age-appropriate approaches to developing players’ technical capabilities and a love of the game.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Development and Liaison

    • Further develop, inform, and assist in maintaining JPYS training materials for coaches

    • Disseminate and promote JPYS training material to coaches

    • Coordinate and “push” formal coach education for coaches

  • Coach Training

    • Pre-season and In-season coach training, consistent w/ age-appropriate best practices and JPYS training materials

    • U8 Academy, U10 Campeones, Grades 4-8 Travel

  • Coach Evaluation and Feedback

    • Provide real-time training and post-training feedback (oral / written)

    • Help formalize JPYS Coach Evaluation / Feedback

    • Attend Travel games to observe/evaluate

  • On-Field Coaching

    • Lead team training sessions with the dual goals of (i) providing quality training for players and (ii) modeling best-practices coaching for volunteer JPYS coaches

    • Expectation of a set, rotating, schedule of on-field coaching (e.g. 2x/week)

Expectations

  • Fall Season (Fall Season and Spring Season)

    • 12 weeks total, including pre-season planning

    • 15-20 hours/week total estimated

    • On-field: 5:45 - 7:45 pm Monday through Friday

    • Off-field: +/- 5 additional hours, planning and meetings

    • Weekends: some weekend game observation and supporting coaches

  • Spring Season: same structure as Fall Season

  • Off-Season: minimal

  • Report Directly to JPYS Board of Directors

  • Collaborate with U8 Academy Director and Coordinator (Grades 1 & 2); U10 Campeones Coordinator (Grades 3 & 4); and Girls and Boys Travel Directors (Grades 4 through 12)

Qualifications

  • U.S. Soccer C License or higher, or equivalent, strongly preferred

  • Experience coaching youth soccer of a variety of ages

Compensation

  • Minimum commitment of 1 year (2 seasons)

  • $22-28K based on experience
